What is cholesterol?

Cholesterol consists of a lot of fats, all of which are known as TOTAL cholesterol. There are HDL and LDL cholesterol and triglycerides. HDL is often called the good fats, and LDL is called the bad fats, but today this way of viewing the two fats is old. LDL is indispensable and is an important part of hormone formation. When there are elevated LDL levels, it is a signal of an imbalance in the body.

In the past, doctors measured the total cholesterol, but researchers now know that it is the ratio of triglycerides to HDL cholesterol that is interesting in relation to cholesterol levels.

There must be a lot of HDL cholesterol. It has the ability to protect us from cardiovascular disease, lower the oxidation level of LDL cholesterol and counteract inflammation.

Triglycerides are fatty acids, which are also called free acids. It is the triglycerides that we need to pay the most attention to in connection with cholesterol. Poorly processed foods, poor cooking oils, too much ‘white food’, such as pasta, rice, bread, cake, sugar, and alcohol, can increase the body’s levels of triglycerides and cause more inflammation.

It is the combination of a varied and healthy diet, possibly weight loss, and exercise that can help reduce triglyceride levels. It is about balance in the fatty acid composition of the blood. However, eating low-fat does not help, as it can increase triglyceride levels and lower HDL levels.

In addition, it is important to eat foods that are high in fiber, such as vegetables, whole grains, and fiber, as the used cholesterol is better transported out of the body through the intestinal system.

If your high cholesterol is not hereditary, then it could be due to a permanent inflammatory condition in your blood vessels that happens as a response from your immune system. The antioxidants and the lactic acid bacteria in POLY N PRO products can reduce this response.
